University Beavers vs Waterside Karori (Preview)

Location: Raroa Park
Date: 14th June 2008
Kick-off: 2.30pm
Last time they met: 3-3 Draw, Karori, April 2008.

Match Preview:
Last time we meet the ground on first glimpse appeared perfect (that’s what one would expect from spending nearly $4 million on a ground!!) and it was… apart from the copious amounts of water that make xmas day slip and slide look like kids play. The first half was all beaver traffic, dominating on the wings with pace and precision, playing a style of football that capital 10 rarely sees. Then Mother Nature decided to even the odds, the rain intensified and the perfect pitch just couldn’t cope drainage wise. Not knowing if the ball was going to skid on, or just stop dead in its tracks, made playing the superlative ball-to-feet football nigh on impossible. I’m not going to re-live anymore – end result 3 all, and the cocky bastards had the tenacity to walk from the pitch saying it was a fair indication of the game… BOLLICKS!!!!

Tomorrow’s game is a must win, period. As we’ve said time and again if the Beavers use their pace and width, good things will come. Nearly every game we see patches of the play that will lead the beavers to the victory they so desperately need, we just need to stop taking it easy on these capital ten yobo’s and unlease. Hopefully everyone’s been keeping an eye on the Euro 08 games (how ‘bout Russia’s shock loss to Spain?), I know I’ve been studying the master skills of that Mantas Van de sar and am currently trying to perfect my graceful “salmon-through-the-air” save.

This weeks outing sees the absence of one Matty Smith – this time he will not be sweating out a BZP induced hangover (fortunately for him the flat “party pill bowl” is now well empty) – no he is currently working his way to New Plymouth to avoid a hair and makeup travesty…. Nuff said. So the defensive boys will once again have to rally and put in the huge effort that we’ve all come to expect from them. Late absentees just in, Wilko (no tennis updates sorry lads) and Dre and his beard are MIA.

An impromptu “practice” has been hailed this arvo, hopefully this will be a chance for a meeting of like minded beavers, the release of some long-shots, and the chance of getting an eye focused on the prize - Capital Ten supremacy.

Key men:
Tayne Falconer- The beavers haven’t seen him in action for a few weeks now and are expecting big things from their senior member.

Sam Barrett and Will “Porkchop” – These two tall timbers will need to exert their dominance under the high ball putting in the big defensive headers when the need arises. Both are still probing for their elusive first beavers goal, who knows what game day will bring?

Matty Smith – It’s a hard yard getting ready for a ball….

TAB Odds:
Beavers $3.50
Western Suburbs $1.20
Draw $2.90

Prediction:
Beavers 3-0.
