University Beavers vs Lower Hutt Roundballs (Match Report)

University Beavers vs Lower Hutt Roundballs (Match Report)

Final Result: University Beavers 1 Lower Hutt Roundballs 1

Player of the Day: Alister Hill

A slight polar chill crept across the sunshine filled Bryan Heath Park as the players and spectator arrived for their Capital 10 fixture. After some initial confusion with the spelling of the aforementioned ground quickly rectified by Sam the Man all players that had gained selection were accounted for and fit and ready to take their previous weeks success into this game.

The whistle blew and they were off. A solid start for the Beavers playing into a slight breeze from the annoying creek end of the ground. The ball was played around like the Euro 2008 had been injected into Wainuiomata for the first time this or any other season. The Beavers sent in sortie after sortie into the Roundballs third but with some excellent raids could not break the deadlock and secure the games first goal.

22nd Minute – Roundballs 1 – Beavers 0

It came somewhat as a surprise that midway through the first spell the Roundballs had a corner which was casually delivered across into the box and gleefully headed home by the unmarked Roundball on the six yard box.

A mass substitution then took place with a change in tactics with 3 on and 3 off. This changed the dynamic of the game as the Roundballs were left dazed as player after player was swapped and reswapped to allow for the odd courtesy stop and injury.

45th Minute – Beavers 1 – Roundballs 1

Suddenly a mass wave of attack ended in Ben Navajo Indian Jagermeister charging at the defence from outside the box with fleet footedness and sultry moves to completely bamboozle the defence as he weaved his magic that even Harry Potter would’ve been proud of. A quick final pivot left the last defender scrambling to stop the attack which resulted in a clumsy challenge and yells of “penalty” and a promise to the ref of a Big Mac and Fries at halftime. After trawling the history books not many would know that this was the Navajo’s first successful penalty attempt. But it was no surprise that the keeper was sent left as the Navahoe sent the ball right and himself into the history books.

Half Time came and went and it was the Beaver’s who started the second spell applying pressure again from the annoying road end. With a slight wind chill behind them Mile’s was able to deliver the ball deep into enemy territory where many raids were again initiated. As the half wore on it appeared only a matter of time before the Beavers would crack the defence. The one spectator who was brave enough to venture across the hill into the badlands was bought to her feet as a quick one two between Tayne Bone Falconer and Dave Battery opened the defence enabling Battery to curl a shot just inches past the small hobbit like goalkeepers far post.

As the half progressed so did the old adage of a game of two halves. At times it was as though an electric fence separated the attack from the defence of both teams with each throwing players forward with the reliance that each defence would hold out any counter attacks. This indeed was the case which resulted in the game withering out like an old tulip in the sun.

Some good performances were put in throughout the game by many players. Ricky Hot Pants Lizard again proved vital in the middle aswell as Navajo introducing himself to the defence through some slick insertions into their danger zone. However it was Alister Aardvark who took the player of the day for his continuous closing down of the opposition. The defence for the Beavers has certainly shown it’s wears over the last two fixtures and it would be no surprise if that cleansheet was just around the corner. We will see you next week when the mighty Beaver will once again have presented itself!
