This week’s encounter serves up a mouthwatering clash of footballing styles. The Beavers will, of course, aim to keep the ball on the deck and penetrate with width and pace. This approach has certainly paid dividends in recent weeks, with the Beavers unbeaten in their last three after a shaky start to their campaign.
The University side will also be keen to erase their demons after a disastrous result in their last performance on Narinville 1, but will certainly have fond memories of their first ever win on the very same ground against the very same opposition.
Upper Hutt, on the other hand, will undoubtedly play an aerial, direct game, and will look to spoil the Beaver rhythm wherever possible. The Marauders will be determined to get their season back on track, after being the early pacesetter but tailing off in recent weeks.
The stage is set, then, for a clash between two teams desperate to keep their position near the top of the congested Capital 10 points table.
Where it will be won:
If the Beavers keep their composure all over the park – in front of goal, at the back and through the midfield – they should be able to grind out a hard-fought result.
Last week they were unfortunate, but with more of the same, and with a little bit of luck and composure, they’ll give them selves a really good shot at winning the match.
Key men:
Little Sammy. If he keeps his cool, he’ll run circles around them all match. Also key for punching someone in the balls if a fight breaks out.
Murphs. Origin-inspired hits are tailor made for this encounter.
Mad dog: If he’s in red, the new strip will finally be complete, rendering the Beavers an unstoppable force. [They’ll probably be in orange, so it should be all go].
